Case Management Canada Inc. would like to share with our clients the following email which we received from the Manitoba Appeal Commission, which is self-explanatory. It explains the new process for Oral Appeal Hearings in light of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
Hope you’re doing well and managing okay during these challenging times.
As most of you know, the Appeal Commission is continuing to operate, we’re just doing things a bit different. Specifically, all of our hearings are being held via teleconference with everyone participating remotely. This includes the appeal commissioners and court reporter. They are also participating remotely from home; there is no one in our boardroom during hearings. At this time it is not clear how long this will continue, but expect it to be for the foreseeable future.
Couple of things to be aware of:
1. When we call you to connect you to the teleconference it will show as a United States number. The phone number and location in the United States that is displayed changes from one teleconference to the next so we cannot tell you what number you should expect to see. We understand this is simply how the teleconference system operates. So if you’re scheduled for a hearing and see a number you do not recognize calling you close to the scheduled start time, it is likely the Appeal Commission. Please answer.
2. Important to remember that any information you want the appeal panel to have needs to be received at the Appeal Commission at least 5 business days before the hearing/review. This includes a copy of your speaking notes, for those of you that like to submit these to the panel. If information is received after the deadline it will not be shared with the appeal panel.
Thank you for working with us to ensure we can continue to operate effectively. If you have any questions please contact me.
