COVID-19 claims have now become commonplace and certainly Case Management Canada’s employer clients are not exempt. We have had several clients notify us of WCB claims for their staff who have contracted COVID-19 while working.
At this point we are reviewing each claim separately and have been applying for a transfer of claims costs where appropriate (that is, when there is a potential third party employer possibly responsible for the worker contracting COVID-19). However, it is our hope and desire that each Workers Compensation Board in Canada will provide “blanket” employer cost relief on COVID-19 claims. We have been told by some WCBs that this is currently under active consideration. We can further advise our clients that we have sent letters to the CEOs of each Workers Compensation Board that we regularly deal with requesting that the WCB enact policy to direct that 100% cost relief be granted for all COVID-19 claims.
